Melbourne furniture and design is of a high caliber. It has to be, Melbournians are known for their pride and innovation in interiors and design. Case in point: the Domain Residence in South Yarra by Travis Walton Architects, a study into sophisticated, contemporary design.
Walton’s passion for the finer details, combined with elements of the unexpected for a unique and vibrant design, is one that we both share, so it should come as no surprise that many of his projects resonate with my personal taste and style. Exemplifying Melbourne’s distinctive style in contemporary furniture design with a nod toward the architectural details of yesteryear – Melbourne is after all a city teeming with historical buildings and heritage design – Travis Walton and his team create interior spaces of modern polish, with no shortage of personality.
Creating a sophisticated interior, Walton utilised sleek materials and balanced geometry to reimagine the classic elegance of a Victorian heritage building and provide a new spin in modern furniture and textures. Considered décor pieces complete the atmosphere in this Melbourne design to stunning effect.
Teaming antique pieces with modern furniture finds, Walton and his design team have successfully merged contemporary and classic styles to provide a timeless, yet current aesthetic. Sleek materials, opulent textures, pops of colour and accents of graphic pattern define the interior scheme, not to mention the iconic designer furniture. Melbourne designers certainly execute understated opulence to perfection, with the Domain Residence proving a triumphant style.
Melbourne has found its signature aesthetic, and it’s certainly one I’ll be looking to imitate within my modern furniture, in Melbourne and beyond.
