Brisbane has enjoyed a style transformation of late: from cool hipster cafes, to amazing boutiques and shopping, the River City is upping its style tenacity. It should come as no surprise then that Brisbane furniture stores have risen to the occasion, with Fortitude Valley leading the way. A mecca for all that is fashionable, Fortitude Valley is an ideal starting point when looking for inspiration for a Queensland interior. The most revered Brisbane interior designers can't be wrong, Queensland's most enviable designer furniture and fashion is found in Fortitude Valley: classic, coastal, and contemporary furniture styled to perfection. It seems fitting then, to take a look into three Brisbane interior design firms to unpack their signature aesthetics...
Local Brisbane-based interior design firm, Highgate House, enjoy an exceptional reputation when it comes to creating classic yet innovative designs within Brisbane and beyond. Their neutral colour palette and subtle pops of colour make for a timeless interior design style that can be incorporated in any home that craves a refined elegance.
Their Hamilton Residence project incorporates a cool tonal palette, creating a light-filled and spacious home; a white and light grey monochromatic colour scheme in one of the bedrooms creates a gorgeous contrast against the dark hardwood timber floors. This colour scheme continues through to the rest of the house, creating one cohesive interior. The living room is lifted with accents of blue to create a classic atmosphere, albeit with a coastal influence, and is topped off with my stunning Max Sparrow Marquette Coffee Table.
Replicate this look at home by selecting a neutral base colour for the walls and cabinetry, and layering the space with a soft accent colour. Like the Hamilton Residence bedroom, try including a chandelier in the bedroom for a chic feature piece; a statement lighting piece like my Max Sparrow Beariz Chandelier would be the perfect final touch for a classic-inspired boudoir.
A coastal home can be characterised by its relaxed attitude and light-filled traits, and top Brisbane interior designer, Anna Spiro, exemplifies this through her fresh and welcoming designs. A celebrated interior designer, Anna's designs have earned her no shortage of accolades, with her signature projects published in such acclaimed publications as Vogue Living. In fact, her work on the coastal boutique hotel, Halcyon House, earned her a spread in Vogue Living July 2015, and despite the location being on the NSW coast, I think it’s only fitting for this Brisbane deisgner to star as my Coastal interior inspiration...
You won’t find a generic coastal theme of a yellow-and-blue colour palette at the Halcyon House. Although blue is definitely the standout hue in this boutique hotel, the rich mix of saturated Oxford Blues, Prussian Blues, Cerulean, Teal, Sky Blue – the list really does go on – transforms this coastal hotel to a seaside oasis.
You’ll find a deliberate mix of patterns along with a plethora of timbers within this coastal establishment, in an array of textural finishes. Recreate the look with warm timber pieces, such as my Palm Beach Side Table, to contrast beautifully against clashes of pattern, while adding a sophisticated touch to a cacophony of visual elements. Experiment with colour and pattern by incorporating Anna’s Higgledy Piggledy Stripe wallpaper, to create an elegant backdrop to your designer furniture. Brisbane's creme-de-la-creme, Anna’s studio is located in New Farm – a stone’s throw away from Fortitude Valley and my own designer furniture gallery.
The Coco Republic Interior Design team in Brisbane focus on all aspects of interior design, but it is their luxurious and sophisticated palette that has me continuously drawn into their residential projects. Two such projects that truly stand out in my mind are the Gold Coast Penthouse project, and the Wavell Heights project. You’ll find both of these interiors offer contemporary clean lines with a light, delicate colour scheme that ultimately deliver warm and inviting spaces – contemporary luxury living at its finest.
The Wavell Heights project seamlessly incorporates a streamlined, modern approach with classical furniture pieces that offer softer silhouettes; creating a functional yet stylish interior, offering comfort as well as a luxurious high-end hotel atmosphere. Reproduce this look in your home by mixing the classic silhouette of my North Hampton Sofa, with a selection of Danish modern furniture.
Brisbane interior design reflects that enviable Parisian aesthetic; mixing and matching furniture styles in the most sophisticated of manners, yet in a decidedly Australian fashion. Do be sure to visit me in my own gallery in Fortitude Valley, and although I may be biased, I'm confident my store complements an already sterling collection of luxury fashion and furniture stores within the Fortitude Valley precint...
