Design Ideas for Small Spaces

design ideas for small interiors

Thanks to foreign investors and a booming property market, the Australian dream has shifted from a large block and white picket fence to a focus on an inner-city lifestyle, with up to 83% of growth in Australia’s capital cities occurring in the inner city areas. Generally speaking, apartments are typically more affordable than houses - believe me, I have been privy to the alternative - but with that also comes smaller spaces. So what can you do when it comes to functional, yet oh-so-beautiful apartment interior design? My top home decorating ideas for smaller spaces are proven to enhance even the tiniest of abodes with unbound style and panache...

De-clutter & Display

For those who may not yet know, I tend to be quite sentimental about people, places, and moments. Often labelled a collector, you’ll find my home adorned in all sorts of décor items sourced from around the globe. A bookworm could fill my Parson's Bookshelf Etagere with ease, and enviable style to boot. Personally, my shelving at home coordinates my favourite titles with seasonal, of-the-moment decor pieces, although my Paris vases by Oly San Francisco are a constant feature...

Furniture Selection

Achieving a cohesive and functional home when decorating small spaces calls for a calming and seamless design aesthetic. If built-in storage is non-existent, look to clever storage solutions such as my Celeste Entertainment Unit and Toulouse Large Ottoman. These practical and on-trend pieces not only provide close-at-hand storage for those smaller accessories, yet also enhance a modern living room design with elegance and style; keep winter’s blankets and throws stored away in a storage ottoman, whilst still being within arms reach for those stormy summer nights.
